Hot Swapping the Battery on Your MacBook

Apple Macbook

One of the cool things about the MacBook is that you can quite easily hotswap the battery without losing any data. It is also very quick and simple to do. Just follow the steps below and you never need to worry about losing work again due to a dead battery.

Firstly, you should save and close anything that you are working on. Now bear in mind that we are doing this the cautious way. You could probably leave the files open and the applications and not experience any problems. It would be quite unlikely for the files to get damaged by leaving them open, but for now, just save your work and close the files.

The next step is to put your MacBook into sleep mode. You don't want to do any battery swapping until you are in sleep mode. If you don't know how to put your MacBook into sleep mode, then just do the following: Tap the power button and select sleep or just close the MacBook's lid. Now you need to keep an eye on the light at the front of your MacBook. You do not want to pull the battery until your MacBook is properly asleep. Initially the light will be solid when data is being written. Once the light starts to pulsate this means it is sleeping and safe to pull the battery.

Now you can remove the battery and plug in a freshly charged one. Open the MacBook and tap the power button and you will be good to go, right from where you left off. The system may take a few seconds to resume, the time will depend on how many apps etc you had open.
